We have arrived in Haiti!
The traveling was long but we had a successful trip. With Haiti, there is often uncertainty about what exactly the plan is (if there is a plan) and also an abundant amount of waiting around. Just like the other trips, we got to experience some of that on this journey to Haiti as well. When students tend to question what we are doing and where we are going, Pastor Dan answers, “don’t worry about the destination, enjoy the journey.” I think everyone did a good job enjoying this journey… the unusual (i stress unusual) air conditioned bus helped! All in all, it was a good trip.
We landed in Santiago sometime this morning…? and eventually made it to a hotel where we went to sleep around 6:30 am. There, we took a little nap to then leave again at 10 am. We boarded the air conditioned bus and traveled across the Dominican Republic in luxury then crossed the border into Haiti. After a little further of a drive, we met one of Pastor Henoc’s drivers with a school bus in Cap Haitien for our last leg of travel.
Once we finally arrived to Pastor Henoc’s compound everyone found their sleeping arrangements and started settling into their new home for this week. We were then provided a delicious and classic meal of vegetates, mashed potatoes, and chicken which we all enjoyed together in the gazebo as a family like we will for every meal this week.
After dinner, some students then pitched in and we unpacked and organized all of the donated items to have for soccer camp and VBS for tomorrow.
I think everyone is exhausted, almost everyone is already asleep catching up on any missed rest we had from the trip.
I am excited to see what the day will bring tomorrow! Starting with an appetizing Haitian breakfast followed by soccer camp and VBS!
Now off to bed I go!
P.S. photos to come tomorrow..
